Hudson Fysh Grantlee Kieza 2022 ISBN 978-0-7333415-3-3
Hudson Fysh wasn ' t a motorcyclist although , he did occassionally ride . Hudson Fysh was the man responsible for making Qantas one of the world ' s great airlines .
Fysh was a pioneer , a WWI veteran who saw the new technology of flight as a way of opening Australia ' s outback , something he did on wheels and in the air .
Grantlee Kieza has constructed a biography of Fysh that digs deep and explores what made the man and the business we know today . The early chapters are of adventure and daring , exploring western Queensland and the tyrany of distance .
Kieza is a journalist of note , and whilst compiling a book of great interest it lacks for what journalism should be about , the whole truth , this biogrpahy of Fysh seems to lack any negativity , except for a few parting sentences about cigarette smoking and religion . Was Fysh that perfect ?
If you ' re interested in the history of early flight and commericial airlines then Kieza ' s Hudson Fysh is for you , don ' t be disappointed by the lack of detail in the latter chapters . If you ' re after more of the motorcycling then give this one a miss .
Way To Go Geoff Hill 2005 ISBN 978-0-8564076-5-9
A book in two parts , Geoff Hill ' s Way To Go will have you in two minds .
Hill is an author of note , a great turn of phrase and unparalled sense of humour highlight his works , it comes across in Way To
Go espcially part one , the ride from India to Ireland aboard an Indian made Royal Enfield . It ' s full of observations and humour , and will leave the reader wanting to do the ride themselves .
Part two is a little sedate in comparison , a ride on the United States most famous road , Route 66 , and yes , it ' s on a Harley . Nothing wrong with that however , many American readers might feel that the second part is having a dig at them , perhaps rightly so , as Hill suggests , America and it ' s people have lost their way , leading to a landscape ' devoid of colour '.
Way To Go is generally a read that will keep you engrossed and wanting more , it ' s observational , humouress , educated , and well written . Way To Go is a travel story , well two , written in a way that only Hill can do .
Well worth a read .
