TRAVERSE 106
Started in 1997 , Mutonio is the product of the Mutoid Waste Company , or more to the point Robin ' Mutoid ' Cooke , a retired mechanic that took the remnants and relics of the Oodnadatta Track and turned them into a most unique sculpture park , all within a short ride of Marree and amongst the most arid of landscapes , this is after all the driest part of the driest state within the Australian continent .
Interpreting the sculptures is left to the imagination of the traveller , yet it ' s hard to go past the aircraft , now home to many birds of the desert , and the inscription upon them . A short walk away is what can only be the patron saint of travellers , Saint Christopher , complete with child on shoulder . Constructed from various motor vehicle parts , St Chris has a huge appendage , perhaps a social comment on the happenings of the church .
