Almost Somewhere is a self published title , like most it is painted with the self-published brush , and suffers from spelling , grammar and narrative issues , at times becomig a little draining and detracting from the purpose . Swanepoel includes a disclaimer in the front , it shouldn ' t be necessary for a self-professed author of many books .
Reading on , Almost Somewhere takes the traveller through Vietnam , riding mostly the Ho Chi Minh road aboard a problem plagued Yamaha scooter . It ' s an at times entertaining read of riding from one point to the other with the authors take on encounters with locals and travellers alike . The descriptions of the sights are thoughtful and well described , the descriptions of people are sometimes verging on being offensive .
If you are planning on riding Vietnam , Almost Somewhere is worth the effort of foregoing the negatives , the positives do provide some insight into a nation rich in history , culture and personal encounters .
