One Man Caravan Robert Edison Fulton 1937 ( 1996 ) ISBN 978-1-8843130-5-9
As so often is the case travel opens ones eyes , and it ' s the hardships that provide the greatest reward of experience . Such was the case in 1932 and 1933 when Robert Fulton took his Douglas around the world .
Written 86 years ago , One Man Caravan is as relevant today as it was back then . Fulton experienced a world of wonder , a world far removed from the negative stereotypes and predjudices , in fact his only issues were encountered when he returned to the USA .
One Man Caravan is written as all well-written bio pieces should be , concentrating on the ( mis ) adventures , the encounters , the people , the experience ... not a turn by turn account of riding from one place to the next .
One Man Caravan is a great insight into the world as it wa sback then fro the point of view of a naive America kid . It ' s also a great way to bring one back to Earth when one might think they know adventure .
Despite his background and manufacturer backing , Fulton created in One Man Caravan a tale of travel that is unpretentious , interesting and engaging .
If you ' re interested in writing and that of travel or adventure then try One Man Caravan as an example of just how to do it . Still one of our favourite books .
KLaiR Kix Marshall 2022 ISBN 978-1-7779618-0-0
Self-proclaimed adventurer , Kix Marshall fell in love , his travelling companion of two years from his home in Canada to Fin del Mundo , the end of the world , in Ushuaia , Argentina . A two year journey where bonds were made and a relationship formed .
KLaiR is the story of the relationship and travels through the America ’ s yet , KLaiR is not the tale of the usual love , KLaiR is in fact an aging , beaten up Kawasaki KLR650 , Marshall ’ s travelling companion of two years .
Self-reflection abounds through Marshall ’ s sense of humour as we discover what it takes to be on the road for such a period of time , we meet the people he does , share the experiences , good and bad , and we too form a bond with KLaiR .
KLaiR is well written , keeping the reader wanting more although , it does fall short toward the end , of the book and the journey , perhaps due to Marshall ’ s desire to move on , his need to get home , or the separation of travelling partners . It becomes a time of reflection for the traveller , allowing us , the reader , a greater look into what it takes for such a ride and the after effects when the journey is completed .
Put aside the rushed last few chapters , and enjoy KLaiR for what it is , a well written reflection of travel through two continents and the affect it has on the rider . KLaiR is a book that all those wanting to ride the America ’ s should pick up .
