Movement spreads through out the crowd , hushed words spoken , some people reach out to touch us . The shaman have driven the evil from the region providing us with safe passage along or chosen route , a good thing as we must encounter a deep river crossing , the occasional suspension bridge , and the ubiquitous narrow mountainside track .
The people of remote Nepal believe strongly in this form of religion . Closely related to , yet not quite the same as Buddhism , shamanism is a way for the people to be healed , spiritually , mentally , and physically . The shaman are the keepers of balance , to provide harmony when there is a break in the natural or moral order of the world . The State is rarely present in these communities and so traditional practises are allowed to continue , something of immense importance to the indigenous peoples . Shaman are the keepers of peace , often acting as police and other law keepers , they are also medical practitioners .
