The Incredible Life Of Hubert Wilkins Peter Fitzsimons 2022 ISBN 978-0-7336413-6-7
Hubert Wilkins is an explorer with an extraordinary tale , a traveller , an adventurer , and the occasional motorcyclist . Wilkins ’ contributions to the coverage of conflict , the exploration of the polar regions , and adventure in general are beyond measure .
Wilkins ’ story has been told several times , and then recently Peter Fitzsimons , a writer of note , has lent his hand to the tome of Australia ’ s forgotten explorer , The Incredible Life of Hubert Wilkins .
Fitzsimons has wound the historical with storytelling , it ’ s a format that usually works for this author , however it falls short and seems to have facts compiled by committee and then bound with lack lustre enthusiasm , often verging on the impossible , it ’ s a script worthy of a Spielberg blockbuster . Did it really happen ?
The early history of Wilkins is well-documented , it fits perfectly with the narrative of Fitzsimons . The later years feel forced , to feed the adventure , keep the story rolling , to fulfil additional pages . As with all Fitzsimons biographical novels , The Incredible Life of Hubert Wilkins is long , 640 pages . Effective editing could easily have reduced this volume by at least a quarter and maintained the story telling whilst highlighting this incredible life .
Fitzsimons has pulled together a team that usually produces wellconstructed historical stories , The Incredible Life Of Hubert Wilkins is no different yet sadly lacks something . Do not let this dissuade you , The Incredible Life Of Hubert
Wilkins is one that will be enjoyed by readers of history , adventure , exploration , and travel .
My Motorcycle At Midnight Greg Fish 2012 ASIN B007JNX7XI
My Motorcycle at Midnight : How Two Teenagers Survived a Crazy 3000 Mile Road Trip , an extended title that should drag the reader in , it does but at just 23 pages long , the title is longer than the book .
This is a great shame as the writing style is engaging and wellpresented but it ’ s ridiculously hard to get past the point that this book is just a Kindle version and only 23 pages , there ’ s just so much more that could be extruded from this story , the how ’ s and the why ’ s .
Unfortunately , My Motorcycle at Midnight : How Two Teenagers Survived a Crazy 3000 Mile Road
Trip , offers so much and delivers extraordinarily little … a great misjustice to what could be a great read .
