JENS BECKER 1967-2022
I met Jens in California at a Horizons Unlimited Meet and liked him immediately . He and another new friend Aaron Mitchell were there . Both really good guys . I subsequently met Jens at several Overland Events in the UK . He always made a point of searching me out and sharing a grin and a handshake . This sounds rather weird perhaps but he had an aura about him that instantly made him the sort of guy you ' d love to share a beer with and swap stories with . I would have enjoyed travelling with this man .
For me , Jens was one of the quiet men of motorcycle overlanding . Yet he was an incredibly enthusiastic man . He wasn ' t flash or a braggart but quietly interested in everything and everyone he encountered .
He represented what I think of as some of the most important aspects of an overlander . He did his research so he knew what he was getting into - both culture and conditions .
He was very respectful towards others and I have always thought of him as a kind man . His curiosity levels were strong and his eyes would literally shine when conversation turned to travel . He was quick to share what he had , and what he had learnt . He was hungry to learn from others and I have watched him in conversation , totally focussed on what he was being told . He was a fine example to us all .
His death is a great loss . Of course to his family and friends but also to the world of motorcycle overlanding as a whole .
