mining town of Waratah we knew a welcoming beer and a more welcoming bed was awaiting our arrival .
This amazing little town , with a population less than half that of Stanley , yes it is possible to have a town with fewer than 250 people , was originally built atop a waterfall to be used for mining operations and possibly to provide hydro-power for Australia ’ s first electric streetlights . Waratah was Australia ’ s first to do so in 1886 . It all provides for a unique history and an amazing centrepiece to a towns streetscape .
A great night led to an early start as we made our way further south from Waratah as we followed the old tramway to an old mining town long since abandoned . Most of the morning was spent in and out of trails , exploring the old growth bush and the mining history .
Tullah provide respite as we took to lunch and completed running
