crossing a level of flexibility is always required and just days before the official start , plans were altered , the driest region of the driest continent on Earth had seen rains that many were suggesting no-one living had seen before and perhaps will never see again . Birdsville , the small town on the eastern fringe of the Simpson was cut off , this most isolated of towns was even more so . Ironically , the only way to reach Birdsville was a crossing of the Simpson .
The start point was moved , Marree , the South Australian town , once a major stop on the ‘ old ’ Ghan Railway , was the new rendezvous for the start of the 2022 Frontline Safari .
“ You know he ’ s a world record holder ,” comments when introducing Benji Brundin to the many riders signing on at the Marree Hotel , one of those old-world constructions that seem so very out of place in the remoteness of an Australia desert . Benji is indeed a Guinness World Record holder , to date he ’ s the only rider to have crossed all ten of Australia ’ s deserts in one single ride .
“ Yes ,” he ’ d grin unassumingly . “ I ’ m the fastest and the slowest . I ’ m the only one .
