Logistically significant , crossing a desert is at best , a challenge . Solo crossings warrant a level of detail that could be considered of a military standard , crossing in a large group is similar to herding cats .
Australia ’ s Simpson Desert is unique in that it is considered to be the largest parallel , static sand dune desert anywhere on Earth . Almost 180,000 square kilometres , The Simpson Desert is Australia ’ s fourth largest desert and with it the over 1,100 dunes that draw many adventurous travellers to undertake a crossing .
The Frontline Safari is an organised crossing that caters , yet not limited to , motorcyclists in what is regarded as one of the toughest motorcycles rides anywhere . The 2022 ‘ safari ’ is believed to be the largest single group to ever cross the Simpson Desert and with that came the logistics of the said ‘ herding cats ’.
Supporting Soldier On , a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enabling serving and non-serving military personnel and their families to thrive in society , the Frontline Safari is a unique adventure ride that raises funds and awareness of the work undertaken . It ’ s a chance for riders , and the occasional driver , to face the challenges of the Simpson Desert while exploring a unique part of the world .
