RON FELLOWES ( 1943 - 2022 )
Have you ever met The Old Bloke On A Bike ? A question we at Traverse have often been asked , and the answer , of course , is how could a motorcycle travel magazine not have met Ron Fellowes .
Ron opitomised travel , he embodied adventure , and he always had a huge grin that made anyone in his company smile .
Ron and his wife , Lynn , took to the road in the early 1980s aboard a 1976 Honda Goldwing and with a camper trailer entowed they rode through 24 countries over three years . When we met Ron , and Lynne , he was just a couple of years returned from riding his 102 year old FN ( Fabrique Nationale ) back to its place of manufacture for it ' s 100th birthday , we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ron a few more times after that initial contact , he was always willing to have a chat .
Charming , humble , enlightened and always filled with humour Ron was so engaging you ' d say your goodbyes filled with a renewed vigor and eagerness to get on the road and explore , even aboard a veteran motorcycle .
Sadly , The Old Bloke On A Bike recently passed away after suffering a stroke in late March , and we shed a tear , no we shed plenty of tears . Ron was that sort of person , we barely knew him yet he had such an impact , as he did with many others .
Vale Ron , in our hearts there will always be room for watermelons .
