responsible for our sleep deprivation , at times racing on dunes , exploring mountains , barbeques with friends , training with other riders . Everything in typical Arabic style , camping on a farm , camping at the Dakar , eating a steamed lamb , of course by hand whilst sat on the floor with a delicious mix of different kinds of rice . These times were unforgettable .
Whilst in Kuwait we were invited to a motorcycle event and won first place in the adventure category , simply by proving to the judges that our motorcycle is used in accordance with the purpose it was designed .
Adventure ! Of course , it is , it ’ s on its way around the world .
The attention to dual sport bikes in The Gulf is growing , slowly but growing . So , when we were there with our overloaded BMW F800GS with over 198,000 kilometres on the clock it drew a lot of attention . We weren ’ t complaining . First place and a trophy are something to be proud of .
As we rode across into Bahrain it seemed we were the first foreign bikers to do so . Just a month earlier they had opened the official bridge that connects Saudi Arabia with Bahrain . It was astounding to see this ever-growing island as the Bahrainis reclaim land to accommodate the ever-growing population .
The bridge is 27 kilometres long , crossing the Persian Gulf , whilst a manmade island acts as the official border post . For many years the bridge , known as the ‘ castaway ’ was closed to motorcycles . The option was to transport your bike by truck for the 27 kilometres , an option most flatly rejected .
