We first came across the Drift jeans by Drayko a few years back and have been surprised with what we found. Drayko is Draggin’ Jeans’ alternative brand, essentially the same with just a different name. The Drayko Drift is a hell of a jean. Like all Draggin’ products the Drift is lined with their own Roomoto® MR7, tougher than Kevlar yet 20% lighter. Apparently this is the best stuff on the market, we can’t confirm, we haven’t slid down the road in these jeans but Drayko (Draggin’) is quick to point out that their jeans provide protection for a 7.45 second slide or 75 metres. What we can say about the Drift is that they are well made and comfortable, the mid-rise relaxed fit helps with this, as does the long boot cut leg, the Drift will easily go over a full length adventure boot. The drift has no rivets in the usual places, none at all, so a scratched bike isn’t a problem. The denim itself initially felt awful yet over time it wore well and softened, don’t all your favourite jeans? It retained its shape and still wears well, on the bike these jeans were initially very comfortable yet, after almost 50,000 kilometres of riding we did find that the Roomoto® lining has become rough, prolonged wearing will rub your legs and becomes quite raw. Overall, the Drift are a good jean that last almost 50,000km. The denim has worn, split, and torn but the lining is still intact. We tested the jeans with a belt sander as well as a box cutter. A course belt, on high speed, saw the demin shredded in no time, the Roomoto however, lasted well beyond the manufacturers test time. Over 12 seconds in our test. It took six slashes with the box cutter before the lining tore. We'd be pretty confident that the jeans by Drayko would do the job intended, and at the same time TRAVERSE 136
