the day we made it into Normanton, home to the largest saltwater crocodile ever shot. It measured an incredible 8.64 metres. Crazy! Our third day was a relaxing one on the bikes, taking time to check out the sites along the way. We decided we wouldn’t have a set plan; we were just going to see where the day took us, and we stumbled across the most northern camp of the old Burke and Wills expedition. From the expedition of the 1860s we found all the old blazes left carved into the trees from the explorers. After an enjoyable few hours, we decided to start heading to the coast towards Burketown, the river crossings were once again getting larger, making riding challenging. On the upside, we stumbled across Leichardt falls, a beautiful place to have a swim and wash the dust off. Upon reaching Burketown the bikes almost rode themselves to the pub. It’s almost a sin not to stop in TRAVERSE 85
