IT All STARTED
WITH A DREAM ...
A
dream lingering in our
minds, a dream trans-
forming into words
and eventually becom-
ing a plan.
Young minds, teen-
agers with big plans, ready to conquer
the world! We went to India when we
were 16 and 18 years of age and did
some trips closer to home. Hiking
in Scotland, Sweden and France. We
went to college and university, all the
while keeping true to that dream of
conquering the world.
Finally, the moment was there! The
first motorcycle exam! Not all went
according to plan as the exam had to
be taken more than once. With the
first license came the first bike. This
was a shabby 1994, Yamaha Virago 250
with really bad brakes, even for an old
chopper. We couldn't have wished for
a better first ride. Eventually the Vira-
go was replaced by the new Kawasaki
Versys 650 serving as the perfect com-
muter bike. When the second license
was obtained some bits and bobs were
fixed on the Virago that once again
served as a favourite first bike! Both
are now patiently waiting for us to re-
turn back home.

TRAVERSE 89
India we finally both knew how to han-
dle a motorcycle and got in the saddle
to take a closer look at what this world
has to offer. The trip opened our eyes.
Made us see things that went by unno-
ticed before. It changed the way we
look at ourselves and everyone around
us.
So far we have made it to India, Ne-
pal, Vietnam and Laos, each country
with it's own beauty, challenges and
adventures. It is overwhelming to re-
alize how much you can do with so lit-
tle. A motorbike, a smile and a story
to share.
