TRAVERSE :
The World's Fastest ...
A
s
the
Australian
summer draws to
a close and many
travellers head into the
heart of the country
exploring the deserts
and northern tropics it's great to see
adventure is continuing.
This months TRAVERSE is packed
with features from Australia as well
as adventures from Asia, North and
South America, Europe, something to
inspire everyone.
Some of the team from TRAVERSE
ventured to what can only be described
as one of Australia's most beautiful yet
unknown areas; that of Lake Gairdner
in South Australia.
The dry lake plays host, annually,
to one of the world's most unique
motorsport events and this year was
one of the best.
World Land Speed Record attempts
as a part of the DLRA Speed Week,
an event sanctioned by the FIM and
playing witness to some of the fastest
motorcycles on earth. The high tech
machinary all playing a part in the
adventure of this remote dry lake, a
place that I have fallen madly in love
with and will return to explore further.
TRAVERSE 5
Some of the bikes don't really
resemble motorcycles but if someone
has the guts to strap themselves into
a two wheeled machine and travel at
over 500 kilometres per hour then fair
play to them. I take my hat off to you.
Valerie Thompson from the USA
had a hell of a ride, as her bike lost
control at over 500kph. Thankfully
Valerie walked away with a few cuts
and bruises, and hopefully she'll
return to Australia for another attempt
at the outright record.
As well as the stunning imagery and
story telling by our travellers we have
the usual news, reviews and more.
No matter where you are, sit back
relax, perhaps with a beer or coffee
and enjoy what TRAVERSE has to offer.
I'm off to pack for a ride into a land
where some of the oldest humans
remains have been found ... next time.
