Mirror, mirror ... Doubletake Mirrors What’s the saying? Never judge a book by its cover? First glance of the Doubletake Mir- ror and you might just do that. Well don’t, in fact stop being so judgmental … Doubletake mirrors do their intended job and do them very well. On the Traverse BMW F800GSA we road/trail tested the adventure model and the results were positive from all riders, in fact all agreed that this is the way mir- rors should be produced. Born out of frustration of breaking standard equipment mirrors the Doubletake Mirrors were created to last and offer a much greater performance, they hit the nail right on the head. The 140mm wide lenses provide a greater field of view than the standard lens on most bikes, on the BMW they are 10mm wider. Doesn’t sound like much but it does make a difference. The height of the lens is a similar story at 10mm higher, again offering a greater view behind the rider. We found this to be perfect for riding in heavy peak hour traffic as well as the open road, and this is where the Doubletake Mirrors really came into their own. The open road. Unlike many OEM mirrors the Doubletake Mirrors use a RAM mount as their supporting stalk. A ball stud fits the original BMW handlebar mount (our test kit also came with a bracket to attach the mirrors to any handlebar), which then allows the joint of the RAM arm to attach to that, and then on up to the mirror. Two ball joints give the greatest flexibility for adjustment, the angles are lim- itless. We found that unlike standard equipment the RAM mounts provided a vibration free view at highway speed which, was also confirmed when we went off-road.
