great adventure-riding destinations. For riders, it’s the ultimate way to get there, with maximum adventure! Cape York Motorcycle Adventures is a premium way to have an adventure, with great support. With twenty five years experience they can't be wrong. It is simply the best way to see one of the best parts of this great land, Australia. I recommend you visit www.CapeYorkMotorcycles.com.au ride of large erosion mounds, mas- sive hills and unpredictable twists and turns. The views, when they ap- pear, are unbelievably beautiful; jun- gle, beach, reef and sky in one pictur- esque glance. Once more, Roy and I are going hammer and tong, pushing the DR-Zs to their limits and beyond, with me nearly overshooting every second corner in the process. Near the end of the track we hit a river crossing with two other tour groups struggling across. We wait for them to move on before ducking down a hid- den trail to a swimming hole known only to Roy and the locals. By lunchtime we are eating Barramundi burgers at Daintree Vil- lage. Sundown sees us sipping brews beside the pool at the backpacker paradise that is PK’s Jungle Village on the coast at Cape Tribulation. This is the only place on the planet where two World Heritage Listed sites meet; the greenest lowland rainforests and the bluest fringing reefs of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The night dissolves into a haze of bonfire-jump- ing nutjobs, cowboy guitarists and in- ebriated backpackers. With so much behind us, the final day provides our last opportunity to twist the throttle. However, it is clear from their expressions that some blokes are ready to call it quits then and there. Roy and Mark save some sweet single track between Mossman and Cairns for the last blast. With a mix of relief and regret, we wind down The Captain Cook Highway, named after the first British naviga- tor to reach Australia, this stretch is primo motorcycling road with nu- merous curves and switchbacks that wind around the towering sea cliffs with stellar views of the Great Barrier Reef all the way back to Cairns. These eight days with Roy, Mark, Westy and the boys have been a hoot. They’re part of an experience that will stay with us all forever. Along with the bull dust painted clown face, there’s a smile on everyone. Achiev- ing the ride together makes the gang instant friends. It’s one of those rare holiday experiences that will stay prime in the memory banks, prob- ably because so many interesting things happen in the space of each day.
