Windmills, Tulips, and Clogs! There's more to Holland then Lederhosens
Misconceptions about Holland and how we make them into correct conceptions!
surpirsingly, there are a lot of (some unconsious) misconceptions about Holland. First off, let me start by saying, when we were in Holland, we didn't call it Holland. The official name for the country is The Netherlands, which, in the national language( which, is not Hollic, Hollandic or Netherlandish, but Dutch) means Low Lands. As far as government goes, they have 5 international courts in their seat of government Den Haag (The Hague in english) which is NOT the capital. Oh, it's all so confusing, and as I was sitting in Chinese (of all restaurants) restaurant in Den Haag, I was so discombobulated by the whole thing. This brings us to another misconception, this time about government. According to Google (I looked it up at the Chinese place), a capital must be the seat of government. Google is a saint but even St. Patrick made mistakes. Googlewas wrong. Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands but the government is based out of Den Haag. Wierd. Also, people do not go around wearing wooden sneakers, (the clogs, you only see in shops) and the working windmills look exactly the the 2 the US invested in do! Just want to cover all bases. There ARE old fashioned wind mills but they are mostly just for looks. French Fries are NOT the national food of The Netherlands even though it's all they ever eat.

Sorry for having to put this here, under a completely different topic. We biked to Den Haag and stayed there for two nights. We camped and ate Chinesse :). We took a bus from our campground and went into the city to see the parliment building. Then, we pushed onto Belgium.
