FRANCE - Christmas
Fairs
O
ne of the most
attractive
activities
for visitors
coming to
France during this celebration
is going shopping at
Christmas fairs. Christmas
fairs or Marchä de Noel are
an indispensable tradition
for French people. Each fair
features its own historic
story and is designed in a
distinguished style. While
Strasbourg fair is more than
400 years old, Lille market
is well known for antiques.
Nearly 25 large and small flea
markets take place in the last
months of year. You can visit
numerous booths and shop
for thousands of products
from traditional foods such as
cheese and sweets, to clothing,
jewelry and crafts. Even, if
you do not want to buy much,
it will be a great experience:
walking around wooden
houses, tasting hot wine,
savoring a piece of ginger cake
or enjoying hot sausages.
The most impressive thing
in France these days is the
Le Räveillon party, which
usually take place through
midnight. Its name means
“wake up”. People enjoy Le
Räveillon after coming back
home from the church and
the responsibility of dishes is
to awaken family members.
French people never worry
about spending too much
money on Le Räveillon. You
will often find expensive
dishes such as caviar, foie
gras, lobsters, oysters, roast
turkey, escargots, salmon and
lamb ribs on their banquet
table. At least 13 desserts are
waiting for you when you
explore the Le Räveillon party.
The number 13 represents
Jesus and his 12 apostles. It’s
quite easy to understand why
a Le Räveillon can last until
6am in the next morning.
