Traditional Japanese Kaiseki and Osechi party While Vietnamese people consider banh chung, banh tet and dua hanh the indispensable dishes during Tet holiday, for Japanese people, Osechi is their must-have dishes on the first days of year. Osechi is brief name of Osechi ryori or Oshougatsu ryori. They include soup prepared by Omochi (sticky rice) and other different ingredients such as stewed vegetablesand pickled and grilled dishes. Meanwhile, a Kaiseki menu will also offer you perfect dining experiences this season. The most popular one is tuna. Side dishes are steamed with ginger, tea and onions, making you feel warmer. For those who love Japanese cuisine, the traditional Kaiseki menu for Christmas and Osechi for New Year holiday includes 10 dishes: sake, beef rolls with lobster, duck meat served with mizuna, stewed prawn with kuwai and bamboo sprout, grilled Japanese crab with sasa leaves and carrot radish rice cakes. Japanese people believe that eating Osechi on the first days of year will bring them happiness. Normally, Kaisechi and Osechi menus are not found on the daily menus of Japanese restaurants. They are only offered during the Christmas period (from 22nd to 26th December), on New Year’s Eve and on the two first days of the new year. Therefore, it’s is a special chance for you to enjoy truly signature Japanese festive cuisine right in the heart of Saigon.
