Twenty years ago, Nicolas R. Mann wrote: “Men are told they should be tougher – more like ‘a man’ – or they are too aggressive. * ”
This duality of social expectation continues today, instilling conflict and confusion in men. They are left lonely, demeaned, disconnected and even numb. Although strides have been made in both the feminist and men’s movements since that time, Mann’s statement “In a male-dominated society, the biggest insult is being likened to a woman. **” still rings true.
