WELCOME MS WELCOME
See what we did there? Ms Welcome, a Saint Kitts native has been working with the Product Development depart-
ment for the past two weeks. Here are her two cents on life in St. Kitts and tourism in Jamaica
1. What is your home life like in St. Kitts?
I’d say my life in St. Kitts is that of a real life super mom, trying to juggle an 8-4 job that
requires my focus from Monday to Friday and sometimes weekends, with Community
Tourism projects, raising three gorgeous children and managing my own business. The days
can seem very long and get pretty busy at work daily, but luckily for me, I work with a team
that makes my schedule a little less hectic. I’m always on the go, from project to project.
During my spare time, I manage a Small Business called “Elegant Occasions & Rentals”
with a staff of eight under my watch. This business focuses on Event Planning and
Rentals with Gift Shop facilities attached to it. I have a passion for Hospitality and Tourism.
2. What is your favourite food to eat back home, Describe that food.
My favourite food gives me thrills of anticipation and who wouldn’t be? This dish is a
combination of rice, chicken, saltfish, pigtail, peas and garden herbs all cooked together
as a one pot meal…..mmmmmm). Regionally known as “Pelau” but locally enjoyed
as “Cook-up”.
3. Give us a St. Kitts proverb and its meaning.
Moon run till day catch it - Take all the chances you can get before the cycle comes
to an end.
4. Jamaica will be your home for the next two weeks, what do you plan to do during
your off time?
Relish as much of the island’s richness as possible and also try to squeeze in a little rest time.
5. What has been the most exciting project / activity that you have worked on since
being here?
I would have to say my visit to a Craft Development Training Session where I was able to interact with Neil and the
other group members and also participate in the session: making traditional wicker baskets and I made a sample
of my own. It was quite interesting.
6. Describe Jamaica’s tourism Product in three words
Exotic, Awesome, Exciting
7. How is Tourism Different in St. Kitts?
Honestly, it’s not really different. Jamaica is leading on a tourism
path that St. Kitts is keenly following. Tourism speaks the same for
both islands, the practices are similar, putting t he tourism product
first, promoting sustainable initiatives, engaging the local
community in embracing livelihoods and delighting the tourist to
discover our natural assets. One is just larger than the other.
8. Using Lyrics from a song back home, describe TPD-
Co.
“ Me no know about you, but me love yuh Bad,
Me no know wha dem a talk bout when they say yuh Bad
When everywhere in de world got problems, everywhere needs
God, Tell dem easy no man, me love yuhBad” Lyrics by Infamous
9. What’s the most interesting thing about Jamaica?
It’s really hard to choose one thing only, but I’d say the exciting and fun-filled natural activities.
