THE BROADCAST MEDIA
The broadcast media is made up of the printed media, radio and television; All stadia need a well
equipped and fully functional media facilities. Stadia also needs commentators stand, media
conference room or auditorium, designed to host media conferences with players and coaches
both before and after the match.
SPORTS COVERAGE IN NIGERIA
The media are not doing enough in the area of sports advert and coverage in Nigeria. Hardly do
the media broadcast the Nigerian local league, and when they do, the output is always of low
quality. If the Nigerian media would upgrade their systems and emulate our European
counterparts in the area of sports coverage and advert, follow up at every stage of the league;
they are not only to cover the sports events, but will also reveal the finance budget for the
tournament and give detailed analysis of each participating club.
However, these details are lacking in the Nigerian sports industry. The media also tell the
target audience how standard the sports arena is, how to book a ticket and the prices. There are
many sporting activities going on in many places throughout the year especially in the area of
football ranging from the Nigerian Professional Football League, pre-season matches,
community tournaments etc. And very little efforts are made by the media to get these activities,
to the notice of the public. Nigeria will definitely maximize the gains of sports on a sustainable
basis if the media should upgrade their services in the area of sports coverage. Sports activities
are one of the most entertaining, enjoyable and exciting events all over the world and could be
