seen as a strong unifying factor in Nigeria. Its development could be translated more as a
National development.
STADIUM MANAGEMENT, MAINTENANCE AND SPONSORSHIP IN NIGERIA
Stadium maintenance is a complex operation, involving a variety of different teams and
departments, each of which is likely to need its own office, workshop and facilities.
The effectiveness of sports development in Nigeria would be felt more if wealthy private
individuals, organizations, and groups should contribute greatly to the support of sports
infrastructural development in Nigeria. Sports have grown above the responsibility of only the
government as seen in Nigeria today. Adequate funding is essential for the growth and
maintenance of sports infrastructures in Nigeria. The Abuja International stadium is a good
example of how Nigerian Federal government could manage and maintain a stadium. The
stadium when it was constructed in 2003, was among the most beautiful and expensive stadiums
in the world. But over the years it has been left to be overgrown with grasses and left in a state of
mess. This alone calls for private and wealthy individuals’ investment and management of sports
stadium infrastructure in Nigeria.
