Training for french teachers and assistants
The professors Yina Julio, Juan Ochoa, and the assistant professor Christophe Martin were invited to receive a special training offered by the French Institute Alliance Franรงaise.
The training was lead by Fredy Barranco, Manager of Linguistic Affairs and External Courses, and it took place from 8:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. at he University of Cartagena, San Pablo branch.
Mr. Barranco talked about methodologies and evaluations. The first learning imparted was the importance of teaching french in a positive way.
It is also important to teach and evaluate three different aspects of the language:
1. Linguistics.
2. Sociolinguistics.
3. Pragmatics.
Linguistics is related to grammar and lexicon. Sociolinguistic is about the use of the language in a specific social context. And pragmatics is the application of the linguist and sociolinguistic, so it is the most important.
The proposal for french teachers and assistants is the action- oriented approach. The teacher is the guide of the class not the boss. The brainstorming at the beginning of the class, is the base of the conceptualization.
Finally, Mr. Barranco said that the mother tongue of the students is very important in a second language learning process. The professors could share with the assistants who work in other cities of the Caribbean Coast.
