Discussion:
Sustainable Tourism, a desire of preservation
In the frame of the Tourism Fair 2017, the Bachelor of Business in Tourism offered a discussions about sustainable tourism . The invited speakers for the discussion were: Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, Jorge Giraldo Botero and María Carolina Cortez Cantero.
Juan Carlos Gutiérrez is an Environmental Engineer graduate from the University of Medellín. Associated with Novus Civitas, Colombia branch as environmental resident for Serena del Mar Project. He worked for Pulso Verde corporation as projects manager, and also worked for DIMAR during the Project Anillo Vial de Crespo in the environmental área. He has been working as University professor.
Jorge Giraldo Botero is a Geologist and a University professor with experience in projects coordination for communities impacted by natural catastrophes. He worked as a technical adviser for the German International Cooperation Agency and was a consultant in risk management at Mamonal Foundation.
He also worked as a local coordinator (Bolívar) for The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and he had the opportunity to manage Projects related to risk evaluation and zoning.
María Carolina Cortez Cantero is an Industrial Administrator graduate from the University of Cartagena, and the Competitiveness Director of Cartagena de Indias Tourism Corporation. She is the representative of the Management for Cartagena de Indias’ Historic Center Certification as a Sustainable Tourist Destination. She bolstered the Tourism quality award given to the city in 2016 by Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism.
She is leading a Project that will let 100 tourist service providers obtain a certification in sustainable Tourism.
