Endale Belachew of Ethiopia was locked in a titanic battle with Nkosikhona Mhlakwana in the 2022 edition of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon . Only three seconds separated the two as the decisive move came on the grass in the finish straight on the UCT Grounds .
Belachew attempted the Comrades that same year but failed to finish as he did at the 2023 Nedbank Runfied 50k .
He is a dangerous contender though given that he won on debut .
