To every runner taking part in this weekend ’ s Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon , I wish you strength , courage and good fortune as you complete the world ’ s most beautiful and iconic distance running race .
The 56km ultra-marathon has become one of the most important and loved sporting events in our calendar , and this year ’ s race is shaping up to be one of the best yet , with an incredible 14 000 runners expected to line up at the start . marathon has become such a bucket-list race for runners around the world .
This year we also celebrate the 25th running of the half marathon , and around 18 000 runners will help mark this special occasion .
The Two Oceans Marathon weekend also brings an incredibly important economic injection to Cape Town , with a contribution of more than R670m to our local economy , plus all the precious jobs created by an event of this size , for which we are extremely grateful .
Whether you ’ ve entered the ultra-marathon or the half marathon , I hope your race goes well and that you will leave Cape Town with memories that will last a lifetime . And while the route may feel long and tough at times , I urge you to look up at the scenery every now and then and appreciate just how special this race is .
