HYDRATION

Where to Fill Up

The 2023 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon will once again be sachet-free , with water , Coca-Cola and Powerade all being dispensed from container trucks into wax-lined cups . Here ’ s where to get your drinks in the sachet-free Two Oceans Marathon race .

The City of Cape Town has often been hailed as ‘ the greenest city in Africa ’ thanks to major strategic decisions such as investments in wind energy and the signing of the Responsible Tourism Charter . Now , thanks to a move to sachet-free hydration for runners for the entire length of the route for both the Ultra Marathon on 15 April and the Half Marathon on 16 April , the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon – the premier road race in Cape Town – can also be counted as part of the City ’ s green drive .

The Two Oceans organisers have long made clear their desire to tangibly elevate the race experience for participants and to eliminate plastic waste in their efforts to meet the City of Cape Town ’ s environmental benchmarks .
“ We are exceptionally fortunate to have partners such as our official beverage partner , Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages , and our official hydration partner , Powerade Peninsula Beverages , who share our vision and commitment to protecting our environment , and heeded our call to find an alternative hydration solution for a second year running ,” says Race Director Hilton Kearns .

Race Day Hydration Notes

• Where possible , refreshment stations will be manned from both sides of the road , but the stations are well spread out to ensure that everyone is catered for .
• Water , Coke and Powerade will be provided throughout the race in 175ml paper cups
• Runners are also encouraged to ‘ carry their own ’ and use the refill stations along the route .
• You should drink approximately 100ml of fluid when thirsty . It may therefore not be necessary to drink at every station , as the dangers of being overhydrated can be as severe as that of dehydration .
• Modify your fluid intake to suit weather conditions on the day , and do not experiment with new drinks on race day .
