The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon is upon us once again . This exciting event is a firm favourite on the Mother City , Western Cape and country ’ s sporting calendar , bringing with it that infectious passion and dedication runners are known for . The half and ultra marathons are a perfect opportunity to showcase what Cape Town is famous for : Its abundant natural beauty , electrifying sporting spirit , and a plethora of tourism activities to enjoy on the sidelines of the marathon .
I am ceaselessly impressed and in awe of the behind-the-scenes preparation that goes into making the event a success each year . As for the dogged , passionate hard work competitors put into getting ready for the races , it is inspiring . Much like how the Western Cape Government works , the runners are singular in their dedication , determined , and tenacious in winning and bettering their times . This is no easy feat , it must be emphasised . Each time I see a runner on our roads , no matter the weather , through the heat and the rain , I am deeply impressed . This running spirit , and the preparation that goes into staging this event , are symbolic of how as a province , city , and country we remain focused on the task at hand , committed to making it a success .
To the runners , a hearty good luck ; to the organisers and your partners , well done for everything you have achieved ; and to those who will be cheering participants on , come out in your numbers and bring the ‘ gees !’

The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon is one of our biggest sporting events in the province , which brings athletes from across the world to enjoy our scenic route and breathtaking views . The Western Cape Government is committed to supporting these major sporting events , as they bring an economic boost to the province , as well as bringing in tourist support . link between physical and mental wellbeing , and we encourage all people to live healthy and active lifestyles , to ensure they develop a lifestyle of holistic wellbeing . Major events such as this one also contribute to the wellbeing of the people of our province , as they create more local jobs and provide opportunities to people to come together in a space of supporting their family and sporting dreams .

It brings me great pleasure to welcome all our runners to the 2023 edition of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon ( TTOM ). On behalf of the whole team that has worked so hard behind the scenes to put this event together , we wish you all the best for your run , and trust that you will enjoy every step of the way as you Conquer the Current with us .
This will be the 52nd running of the Ultra Marathon since its inception in 1970 , and the 24th edition of the Half Marathon , and we are proud of the fact that the TTOM is considered a jewel event on the Western Cape ’ s calendar of highlights . The TTOM contributes well over R650 million to the local provincial economy annually , making it Africa ’ s biggest running event when measured by this metric , and we feel strongly about supporting local producers , suppliers and innovators , so we thank all the partners , suppliers and volunteers who are working alongside us to make this great event possible . stand for as an event . We could not ask for a better alignment than with these partners .
Last year we returned to the roads after a two-year hiatus , due to the COVID pandemic , and our Conquer the Current campaign was launched as a tribute to the resilience each and every one of us has had to show over the last few years . That message remains the same in 2023 , especially for our TTOM runners , who have proven their resilience by training for the TTOM , and will continue showing it when they line up at the start .
