Beautiful Cape Town will once again be the host of the unprecedented 2023 Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon ( TTOM ), Ultra Marathon on Saturday 15th April and Half Marathon on Sunday 16th April 2023 . The TOM NPC is eternally grateful to our sponsors , especially Title Sponsor Totalsports , who have seen the value that our event adds to the Western Cape and the running fraternity .
This year once again , the TTOM has been re-awarded Gold Label Status by the International Association of Ultrarunners ( IAU ), which operates under the patronage of World Athletics . This accolade speaks volumes for our formidable brand , and aligns the Two Oceans Marathon as a leading global marathon within the IAU and World Athletics community .
For the first time , participants will not have the pleasure of registering and visiting the Expo on the Good Friday holiday . However , our extended Expo hours on the Thursday and Friday before race day , and the Saturday of the Ultra Marathon , are devised to welcome as many visitors as possible to the CTICC TOM 2023 Expo . While the Expo is open to all on Saturday 15 April , only Half Marathon runners may collect race packs .
This year we have an exciting and exhilarating starting line-up , as many top elites have trained and prepared themselves to participate in # TTOM2023 . Congratulations to Gerda Steyn , who will be running as a Blue Number Club member after winning three consecutive races , and she will also defend her crown after breaking the 33-year-old women ’ s record last year .
The unchanged Ultra and Half Marathon routes will again be braved by participants who will tick the box and take up the challenge to achieve their personal best , or participate in their first TTOM . Just as absolutely commendable is the commitment of a great team and a committed Board , who have had the tenacity and endurance to ensure that we stage the “ World ’ s Most Beautiful Marathon .”

The Ultra Marathon celebrates its 52nd anniversary this year . The City of Cape Town is proud to welcome to the Mother City all the entrants in the world ’ s most picturesque and iconic ultra- and half marathons : The 53rd running of the Two Oceans Marathon . This is a flagship event on the City ’ s calendar , and this year we expect around 29,000 runners to take on the 56km and 21km routes through some of the most breath-taking scenery in the world .
More than half the entrants this year will be from outside the Western Cape , despite the race having shifted away from the Easter Weekend , and
international runners will hail from up to 90 countries . This is testament to the 4 status of the Two Oceans Marathon , which was once again confirmed by the
International Association of Ultrarunners through its Gold Status award . It truly is a global bucket list race for anyone with an interest in distance running .
Here in Cape Town , we love nothing more than welcoming the world to our city . We want travellers – whether for leisure , business or for sporting events such as this – to have a full and rich Cape Town experience , and to then return here , again and again . An event like the Two Oceans Marathon showcases our city at its very best . The memories people take away from here , along with the footage and images beamed around the world , say more about Cape Town than any marketing campaign ever could . And of course , we are extremely grateful for the massive injection this event brings to our local economy in terms of revenue and jobs .
