A Hockey Player’s Off-Season By: David Blais The hockey season can be a long and grueling one and many hockey players continue to play into the spring. What does this do for your long term development if you are looking to really make the jump to the next level? Are you willing to put the time in off-ice to grow on the ice? Stepping back from the game after the season can be of great benefit both physically and mentally. It is important to rest the body and to allow it to recover from the sport. This is a great time to re-evaluate your goals and important in determining how one can truly develop over the upcoming months. The off-season for athletic development can take on many forms. Young multi-sport kids/athletes can be re-energized by exploring new environments and challenge their athleticism through new skills and movements. Regardless of whom you are, from professional athletes to young kids looking to get just a little better, your passion for sport and development should always be fun in your training or organized play. It’s fun to get better; it’s fun to challenge you. What is your off-season? Take the steps in the right direction to determine who you are and where you want to go as an athlete. 1) Define your off-season and what it means to you in order to develop both physically and mentally 2) Take time to define what your goals and ambitions are 3) Choose fun, active, organized play Now, define your off-season and embrace your passion. ISPW High Performance Hockey Camp Our High Performance Hockey Camp is a complete program for hockey development both on and off the ice.
