George Gudgeon

Kental Town FC. Chairman

Is this man the hardest working chairman in football ?

George Gudgeon is the Chairman of Kendal Town FC, who play in the Evo Stik League West Division.

He took on the role about three years ago after the previous chairman stood down. With little money in the coffers and the team facing relegation George, who’s background was more focused on youth development than adult 1st teams quickly got some young players together and managed to stave of relegation comfortably with a game or two to spare. Looking back at things now that was the easy part!

Non league football is very much volunteer based and volunteers are essential to the survival of any club at this level but due to the circumstances that were out of his hands, a minority of fans turned against him causing a knock on effect that seen club volunteers almost vanish. George still has a small hardcore of volunteers and a very experienced committee behind him, but the actual day to day running of the club is down to George, along with everything else!

George can be found at the ground most days or evenings cutting, rolling and marking the pitch, not just for Kendal 1st team but also for Morecambe FC,who use the pitch for their U18 academy team. The counties u18 representative side also use the pitch and it has to be in tip top condition for county cup finals, all of which generate much needed funds.
