"Salvete from New Jersey!

We’re at the midpoint of the year, and the NJJCL has successfully hosted and is in the midst of planning many fun events! Recently, we held a Classics Cooking Night where classics enjoyers across the state baked cheesecake from a real ancient recipe. It was a huge success. While not everybody was the best culinary master, everybody reported having lots of fun. December’s photo of the month theme, in line with our theme of board games, was Monopoly, which involves spreading wealth and abundance (much like our gift shopping for the holidays)! February’s theme was Connect 4 to represent connecting with your loved ones for Valentines' Day. Stay tuned for the winner! As far as community service, we have been hosting a food drive to help those in need. Looking to the future, later in February, we are hosting the second round of the very successful NJJCL Book Club, where we will be reading and watching Percy Jackson. In addition, we are hosting the annual Certamen at Princeton University, where teams from schools across New Jersey will compete in quiz bowl format. The fun doesn’t stop in March! In April, get excited for our New Jersey state convention, which our convention coordinators are currently planning!

"Salvete omnes!

In the NYJCL’s first year back in action, our brand-new board has started to gain members and begin state activities. In November, members of the NYJCL board gathered outside the New York Public Library to make a variety of sandwiches, which were then distributed among community fridges. This event was also the first time many members met in person, and we all had an amazing time giving back to the community. In December, we published our first edition of The Excelsior, our state newspaper, and we are very excited to be putting together our winter edition. Many members are looking forward to holding our first elections later this year, as well as attending our first national convention this summer. Follow our Instagram (@nyjuniorclassical) for more updates about our future activities!"
