Salvete, omnes!

One year ends. Another begins. As we prepare to enter 2025, it is my honor to present to you the winter issue of the 2024-2025 Torch: U.S. These pages capture the thoughts and dedication of JCLers from around the country—separated by distance, but brought together in a shared love for the ancient world and its legacies.

The Torch: U.S. would not be possible without the support and contributions of so many. From Photo of the Month or Club of the Month winners, to individual reflections or chapter-wide histories, the submissions that are published within this issue speak to the myriad of voices that constitute the JCL.

Though Latin may no longer be a spoken language, the JCL remains very much alive—a dynamic organization shaped by the passions, interests, and commitments of its members. It thrives through the legacies of the past, and is continually renewed through the energy and vision of the present.

The work we do today—within our chapters, our states, and on the national level—shapes the future of the JCL. As you continue to grow within your own JCL community, I encourage you to think about the legacy you hope to leave. This year comes to a close, but there are more yet to come.
