FIRMITAS
Firmitas means “strength” or “durability.” It is featured in the three principles of good architecture, coined by Roman architect Vitruvius, “Firmitas, Utilitas, et Venustas.”
“As part of the outreach program of the Paideia Institute, students taught under funded students (who would otherwise have never had the ability to learn any Latin) for free. [Also,] by participating in the Online International Certamen Team, despite facing off against teams double our size, we endured.”
“This month, our chapter volunteered at the Natchitoches Renaissance Festival hosted by the St. John Baptiste Fort. A total of 30 students volunteered for 5 hours. They helped with a variety of activities such as transporting materials and managing the face paint stand.”
“Our Olympics themed meeting fits the theme of "Firmitas" because we tested our chapter members' strength with our tog-a-war (tug-o-war) and durability with the quick-paced relay race. In addition, the relay race upheld "firmitas utilitas venustas" by combining endurance, utility (working together in a timely manner) and beauty (we used pretty sashes as team markers).”
