Salvete, omnes!

We've officially passed the halfway point of the year — as counted in days from national convention to national convention. The deepest days of winter are spent, and the heady days of spring seem to rush speedily into reach.

The spring issue of the Torch: U.S. reflects this passing of the year. Here, the energy of the JCL across the country is given voice. The photo of the month and club of the month — showcasing moments in November, December, and January — offer reflection on our efforts over the past months. Service, a core pillar of the JCL, makes itself evident in each of these moments. And, alongside it, stands the growth and strengthening of our community.

Community can come organically, but it takes consistent, intentional effort to maintain — from teachers and chairs, who already contribute so much, but also from JCLers of all ages and levels. The passion of these students for the classics is undeniable, and incredibly heartening, whether expressed here through their art, creative writing, or analytical commentary.

This coming spring, let us take another step on our journey with the NJCL and the ancient world, looking to the future and building the present through service, community, and commitment to classical learning.
