Hi! We hosted out state convention on April 8th and 9th! From an abundance of art submissions and the outstanding academic achievements from students all over Texas, this was a very successful state convention. We held our state elections and inducted new officers including, Jacqueline Huang as President, Meredith Shaw as First Vice President, Eleanor Tallman for Second Vice President, Aanya Patel as Historian, and Macy Hamel as the newest Outreach Coordinator! We had over 800 items donated this year to our service project where we created care packages for homeless shelters. Additionally we awarded the Lauren Dill Memorial Scholarship to Bering Edwards. We had a very successful 2022 state convention!

Spring has been another incredibly productive season for the VJCL. We have spent the past few months accomplishing our proposed projects from the Executive Council meeting that took place in the first week of March.
The Love for Our Elders Service Project was a huge success, raking in thoughtful letters for our elderly community from schools across the state. Our “NLE Prep Squad” helped students prepare for the National Latin Exam with officer-made Kahoots. We also created a week-long series of interactive activities and games for Classics Week; one such activity was a service event to tackle hunger and food instability by promoting donations to local food banks. Our state was also successful in making edits to its VJCL Manual, rearranging the order of officer listings to reflect the NJCL’s standards. Additionally, the spring edition of the Forum has been finalized and is pending approval for a May publication. Moving forward, our biggest focus will be on preparing for the NJCL Convention this July. We are working to hopefully organize a group bus trip to NJCL Convention this July, in which students from across the state will be welcomed to travel to the convention together. Likewise, planning spirit for convention is a high priority item on our current agenda.

In the past couple of months, the WJCL has been prepping for all things national related. This includes spirit cheers and figuring out travel methods. Along with this in the month of April, the WJCL planned a week packed with fun activities for National Classics Week. To kick the week off, several local chapter members gathered for our service project of the month: a highway cleanup. Throughout the week, we engaged delegates through our Instagram, playing bingo, Roman trivia, and having a photo submission contest. We also celebrated Rome's birthday with a cake-baking contest, with a hydra cupcake taking first place. The WJCL had an exciting spring and is ready for nationals and summer!
