The Ohio JCL has had a very successful spring quarter. In March, the OJCL returned to a hybrid convention, the first time many JCLers had seen each other in person since 2020. Overall the one day of state convention in person was an overwhelming success. At convention, many students ran for office and we are excited to see the work of the new 2022-23 OJCL State Executive Board. All the while our annual coin wars was an overwhelming success, raising over $1,000 for Ukrainian relief. Following the successful convention, state officers met in April for the first in-person planning meeting since early 2020. Officers began spirit guides for nationals (starting with “corn people”, which was well-received by delegates). Officers appointed several offices during April, naming a new treasurer, editor, and historian. Lastly, officers planned for national spirit and began working on events, such as the pre-nationals picnic, leading up to our journey to national convention in Louisiana. The OJCL is very excited to see what the rest of this year will bring and cannot wait to see other JCL delegations at national convention!

TENNESSEE

Tennessee JCL recently hosted an in-person convention for the first time in 2 years! While virtual attendance was an option, schools from across Tennessee sent delegations to gather for our in-person events. After kicking things off with a spirit competition, attendees participated in various service projects, contests, and activities. For one of our service projects, participants wrote letters of gratitude to service members in the US Military. We also successfully raised money for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital through the Officer Coin Wars. Our contests included activities like the Gustatio baking contest, costume contests, and even a classically themed Minecraft build competition. At the end of the convention’s proceedings, the new TJCL officers were elected and sworn into office. We were so excited to be back in person and we look forward to next year!

Salvete! The Texas State Junior Classical League held our 2022 state convention from April 8th-9th at Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio. With more than 1200 attendees, the first in-person state convention in three years did not disappoint. Highlights included a live DJ, riveting talent show performances, a digital scavenger hunt, three colloquia, and a barbeque dinner. The competitive Certamen winners were Area F in Novice, Area A in intermediate, and Area F in Advanced. Additionally, sweepstakes winners included Greenhill Middle School (Silver Division), LASA (Red Division), St. Thomas Episcopal Upper School (Gold Division), and Northside Health Careers High School (Purple Division). The TSJCL would like to thank the volunteers, sponsors, state chairs, officers, and the TSJCLers who made the convention possible

On April 30th, the Texas State Junior Classical League also held our spring board meeting at Tom C. Clark High School in San Antonio, where we welcomed incoming officers and prepared for nationals. This summer, we look forward to reuniting with the greater JCL community in Lafayette!
