Arizona JCL has been doing fun, online JCL activities, even with all of the madness going on. The usual beginning of the year event, known in Arizona as the Salvete event, was redesigned from a Certamen tournament to a fun Labors of Hercules-themed Zoom event. Dozens of members came and showed their skills at many various challenges, from Pictionary to Kahoot! to GimKit. Pictionary was regarded to be extremely fun and was even used at several local events after this. The next fun event that AZJCL did was a Hercules watch party. Many people attended and enjoyed watching the movie with their friends, even if it was over Zoom. This year, our officers have been working harder than ever to prepare all of these fun events. We have an upcoming Certamen event this month with many online games in between rounds, including Among Us and Roblox to name a couple. Overall, AZJCL has been missing the normal year but is still dedicated to providing the best JCL experience for its members.

Salvete, omnes! During these virtual times, the California JCL delegation has been staying active. At virtual NJCL Convention, we had a total of 42 delegates, 4 sponsors, and 5 SCL members attend, which included 12 total chapters. Even through a computer screen, CAJCL placed second in spirit for the large states, and our state website, publication, and scrapbook all received high awards. On September 26, the CAJCL board members, sponsors, and chairs gathered via Zoom for the annual September board meeting. All student officers in attendance wore their snazzy new board sweatshirts created by our historian, Sadie Almgren. We discussed new meme and website contests, a JCL buddies program, and the publication of the fall Nuntius Californiensis. In addition, the planning for state convention by Menlo School has commenced, as well as our upcoming Regional Events, Ludi and SCRAM. On November 14, Miramonte High School hosted the first virtual Ludi, and University High School hosted the first virtual SCRAM! From Miramonte High School’s virtual scavenger hunt to St. Ignatius College Prep’s virtual Pictionary game and Woodbridge High School’s pumpkin carving fest, the CAJCL spirit has not faltered. Also, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will host national convention in 2021 at San Diego State University!
