SALVETE, AMICI!

EDITOR'S

So much has changed since March. I wrote the spring issue’s cover story about the Australian wildfires, what I was sure to be the global scourge of 2020. Never did I expect to plan the NJCL’s first virtual convention, yet despite uncertainty for the future, the thriving spirit of the JCL has remained constant. Editing the Torch over the last few months has brought me so much joy as I see how JCL states and chapters continue to keep the classics in their lives, from virtual state conventions, to a social-distancing-friendly National Classics Week, to the collection of donations for service projects. Thank you for serving the needs in your communities and for allowing me to share in this issue of the Torch!

In this issue, experience the brotherhood of the JCL from a first-time convention attendee, understand the pandemics of the classical world, discover a revitalized Greek convention event, learn about how the Romans baked their own sourdough loaves, and celebrate the NLE perfect scores.

We may be separated by distance, but the JCL is still serving its purpose of connecting students through classical studies. The Torch: U.S. exists to unite classics students from across the country, and I invite you to experience, discover, understand, learn, and celebrate with all other readers!

ab imo pectore,
