EDITOR'S

Beginning the new year, I both welcome the change and pause in reflection, half my term as NJCL Editor having passed. In this issue and over the past couple of months, I’ve sifted through the stories – the thoughts and ideas and experiences and actions – of students from across the country. Whether collecting baby pictures, promoting Non-Convention Contests, publishing poetry, connecting fires in the ancient world to today, spreading publicity and memberships ideas, or sharing the activities of state chapters, I’ve experienced the collaboration of individuals passionate about classical civilization, the community of the Junior Classical League.

Thank you to all whom I’ve worked with on this issue. Thank you for your questions, excitement, and submissions! For your work to potentially be featured in the Torch, submit an article (or chapter activity or personal essay or creative writing piece) to editor@njcl.org by May 1st, 2020.

As you read this issue of the Torch, read of the stories of these students, and write of your own time in the JCL. Will you submit your art to the Photo of the Month Contest? Or, inspired by Greek mythology, write your own poetry? Or receive feedback on your digital masterpiece from the Website Contest? Or develop your own creative publicity and membership ideas? Or prepare for the National Latin Exam? Or organize your chapter’s events for National Classics Week activities? Whichever niche (or niches) you find within the JCL, make the most of the community here.

Enjoy the stories within the pages of the third issue of the Torch: U.S.!

Ab imo pectore,

Elizabeth Foster
