From the OTO ’ s Desk
Greetings ! What a difference a year makes – in the past 14 months I have been witness to many Auxiliary successes and I have a much better understanding of our organization ’ s importance to the nation . Every day our members are sustaining CG missions ( even more significant when the Auxiliary is the only CG presence in a community ) and helping in so many different areas when and where the Coast Guard needs it most . This is made possible by our members unstoppable desire to contribute to Coast Guard mission success . Those of you who have been actively involved know that the opportunities to contribute seem to be increasing daily . If we are going to meet those opportunities with the trademark Auxiliary enthusiasm and professionalism necessary for mission excellence , then we must ensure we maintain a strong organization . Please consider how your relationships and actions can contribute to our organizational successes . Be proud of the work you are doing while also inviting others to participate ! Offer your time to leadership positions – there are so many people who can help you be successful . And always serve within the spirit of Honor , Respect , and Devotion to Duty .

I would also like to take this time to solicit for involvement with two specific programs : Auxiliary Paddle-craft ( AUXPAD ) and the D5NR Mascot program . The Paddle craft afloat outreach program seeks to increase boating safety among the growing population of paddle craft users . I intend to make funding available to facilitate the training necessary to gain qualifications so we can grow this important program , but it can ’ t happen without interest and commitment from our membership ( More info in the new AUXPAD safety program handbook ). Likewise , we have made investments into our mascot program by adding a new “ Coastie the safety boat ” and also a 9 ’ tall inflatable Auxiliarist named “ Joe Coastie ”. The public feedback has been fantastic for these mascots , but without qualified operators , we won ’ t be able to showcase them to the extent needed for recruitment and safety awareness .
I continue to look forward to seeing you at various training venues , meetings , or other events and evolutions as often as I can be there . Have fun and stay safe !
