FINAL 4
One of Washingtons major successes was the crushing of the whiskey rebellion. The whiskey rebellion was a rebellion against the taxation of distilled spirts in order to create a steady flow of income for the government. When the rebellion got big enough, George Washington started negotiating with the rebels. When that failed, he used military force to crush the rebellion. By the time the armed men got there, the rebellion had already been abandoned.
One of Washingtons successes was him stepping out of the office after 2 terms. This set a role model for future presidents to only serve for 2 terms. This also eventually led to it becoming law that a president can only serve 2 terms. Only Franklin D. Roosevelt served more than 2 terms. He was elected to his 4th term on August 10, 1944.
Another one of Washingtons Successes was not getting involved with British vs French war. Even though his secretary of state said to tke side with the French, and his Secreatary of treasury said to side with the British, Washington took the neutral side. He believed that taking part in the war would shatter his new government.
Alhtough Washington had many successes, he did have a failure. Hs failure was not acting on slavery. He thought slavery would just die off, but instead it caused a war in the following century.
