When Abraham Lincoln left office, the country had just lost one of the best presidents it had ever seen. In 1982, Forty-nine historians and political scientists were asked by the Chicago Tribune to rate all the Presidents through Jimmy Carter in five categories: leadership qualities, accomplishments/crisis management, political skills, appointments, and character/integrity. At the top of the list stood Abraham Lincoln. No other president passed Lincoln in any of the Categories. Once Lincoln had passed away, he was being compared to Jesus Christ as the saviour of the Union that helped free slaves.
Almost all African Americans were affected somehow by Abraham Lincoln, if they were slaves in the states that seceded, they were freed by the emancipation proclamation . If they were in states that were in the union still, they were freed by the 13th amendment. Lincoln helped stop slavery, had Lincoln not done that, we would have still seen slaves in our modern times.
In order to achieve what he had achieved though, Lincoln broke several laws and 1 constitutional law. Although he justified this by saying that there is no point in preserving the constitution if there was no nation. He also protected democracy.
Had there been a lesser person in his place, this country would have not been in the same position it is today.
