When Harry Truman left his presidency position, he was one of the most disliked politicians. There were several reasons for this though, the Korean War and corruption in his administration. After he returned to his own life, his image started to revive and Americans started to see him as a feisty man from middle America rather than a normal old politician.
Americans started to see his conduct of American foreign policy because he recognized that the Soviet Union threatened military, political, and economical balance of power.Throughout the Cold war, American officials followed Truman’s approach.
Truman was the president that committed to Israel and South Korea, which now we see the effects being positive. Both countries are now prospering and are major allies of the United States.
Truman also turned the economy around after World War II into an economy based on consumer and military production. he also rose the minimum wage and extended Social Security.
Some people may say Truman should have not so easily accepted McArthur's word on Chinese intentions in Korea. His support for African Americans was also “underwhelming”. All of this may sound bad, but you have to look at the position Harry S. Truman was put in. The Democratic party was split between progressives and southern conservatives
At the end, this debate could go on forever, but all ended well and we still see the positive effects of Truman’s legacy all around us today.
