RADIAL ENGINEERING VOCOLOCO 36 TONE TALK // Naturally, Radial has more than one box dedicated to interfacing pro audio gear and guitar pedals, and the company’s Vocoloco is designed specifically for bringing these two world’s together in a live performance environment. As the “Voco” in its name suggests, it’s specifically geared towards vocalists who use guitar effects on stage, but it is also very popular with horn players like Randy Brecker. It features a built-in mic preamp with phantom power, a two-band EQ for pre-effects tone shaping, a transformer isolated effects loop, send and receive level controls, and post-effects tone and mix knobs. It also has a balanced XLR output for taking the effected signal blend back to the mixer or PA system. The Radial Vocoloco works superbly in live and studio situations, and if Miles Davis was still around, he would probably have one on stage with him for recreating those electric-era wah-wah trumpet tones.
