We are pleased to present Sheila and Jim Marx and their business “The Dirty
Turtle” as the spring Merchant of the Quarter. Sheila provided us with a little
information about their business and their involvement in the surrounding
communities.
It all began when Sheila and Jim were approached by Bob and Gloria Dippen in
1999 to gauge their interest in the Dirty Turtle. Sheila had been involved in the
planning stages and they were very excited about the prospect of owning The
Dirty Turtle. Sheila brought years of restaurant experience with her as she had
managed the Tee Pee Supper Club in Tomah and had also worked at Mr. D’s and the Crow Bar in Tomah. Her first real job
was in a restaurant in Camp Douglas and proudly mentions that this business “is in my blood”.
Both Sheila and Jim are involved in the community and love giving back - especially the January 1st Turtle Dunk for the
Friends and Family Cancer Foundation. Sheila is on the Room Tax Committee in Mauston and Jim is on the O’Dells Bay
Community Association and O’Dell’s Bay Sanitary District Boards. They both are on the Waterfest Committee. Sheila tells
us that she loves the small town feel of New Lisbon, Mauston and Necedah. “Friendly people who are always willing to
help each other!”
The Dirty Turtle typically employs 15 people during the winter, but during the hopping summer season, there are about
50 employees. Sheila notes that they love to meet and talk to their customers and they really enjoy working with their
staff - a wonderful, dedicated Turtle family.
Though they have limited hours during the winter, The Turtle is open year round and they are family friendly with
something for all ages. Visit on your birthday and receive a FREE birthday glass with unlimited soda or tap beer! Take a
drive through beautiful Wisconsin scenery and experience all that The Dirty Turtle has to offer! Stay up to date on events
and happenings by visiting them on Facebook and check out their website to learn more about the Cruisin’ Turtle.
