Theresa Healy-Miller Award ( Weekend BSN ) Victoria Shaw Victoria Shaw graduated from GMercyU ’ s Weekend Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and exemplifies the utmost level of professionalism with all patients , nursing staff , and faculty . Throughout her clinical courses , Victoria established therapeutic relationships with her patients and went above and beyond as their advocate . Victoria has a caring and compassionate demeanor which has earned her numerous compliments from patients and the nursing staff at her various clinical locations . She is no doubt going to carry this on throughout her nursing career as a Distinctive Mercy Graduate .
Pennsylvania Society of Respiratory Care Outstanding Student of the Year Award Catharine Hay Catharine ( Katie ) Hay graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care . Katie displays exceptional academic achievement and clinical competence and also a commitment to service to society and to the profession of respiratory care . Katie was selected unanimously for this award as a result of her exceptional leadership and her many acts of Mercy and service to the community . She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa , Sigma Phi Sigma , the National Mercy Honor Society , and Alpha Eta , the National Honors Society for Allied Health . She served as a Respiratory Care Tutor , assisted in Open Houses and Accepted Student Days and participated in the Griffin Student Leadership Institute . She volunteers on and off campus , participating in Rise Against Hunger and Project Hearth , and was actively involved in Campus Ministry with GMercyU ’ s Interfaith Sharing Group and Alternative Spring Break .

Gregory Doyle Gregory Doyle graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and has demonstrated academic excellence and evidence of professional leadership . Always trying to increase his knowledge , he is an eager learner and is reflective and inquisitive in class . In the clinical setting , Gregory always shows compassion for his patients . He is an excellent team player and is extremely creative , especially when he was providing education to his patients during the COVID-19 pandemic . He is conscientious and hard-working , and it was evident that he truly cared about doing a good job and learning as much as possible during his time in the program . He is compassionate , mature , and professional , and will carry forth his excellence into his nursing career as a Distinctive Mercy Graduate .
Iota Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau Award
Alexis Preston Alexis Preston graduated from Gwynedd Mercy University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree . Not only is she committed to learning in the classroom , but she also exhibits extraordinary excellence in clinical practice . Alexis is an active member of the Student Nurses ’ Association of Pennsylvania ( SNAP ) through which she has displayed outstanding leadership . In addition , Alexis has organized service initiatives and mission-driven work with a passion for serving others . Prior to pursuing her nursing degree , Alexis served in the U . S . Navy and is a hero in more ways than one . Her recognition is well-deserved and she will flourish as a Distinctive Mercy Graduate for years to come .

This year , Gwynedd Mercy University recognized seven outstanding faculty members as Professors Emeriti for their dedication and contributions to the University , their students , and their fields of study . Congratulations to Nancy Chiarantona , MSN ; Susan Cicione , MSN ; Wade Farrior , Jr ., PhD ; Wayne A . Huss , PhD ; Velia McCabe , MSN ; Jean Michiels , MSN ; and Barbara Schuster , MSEd .

Professor Emerita
Nancy Chiarantona , MSN , RN Nancy Chiarantona was a tenured Assistant Professor in the Frances M . Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions with 43 years of distinguished teaching , service and scholarship at GMercyU . As mentioned by her nominator , “ Nancy was a well-seasoned teacher and a valuable resource on current knowledge and best practices in nursing .” She also has had a strong service record and has chaired many faculty committees , as well as participated in recruitment and many other campus events . As the BSN Clinical Coordinator , Nancy developed close partnerships with GMercyU ’ s clinical agencies supporting the placement and oversight of more than 400 students each semester , as well as recruiting and mentoring the clinical instructors .
